National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Dr. Chibuzo Asomugha, has stated that the Federal Government, FG, has abandoned the union.

Asomugha made this disclosure in a telephone chat Monday morning, saying that since they rejected the Federal Government proposal some weeks ago, that nothing has been heard from the government.

"Nothing has changed since the last time we spoke, my friend," he said on the phone this morning.

"We still remain how we have been. Nobody has called us for any meeting so we have not made any move to call off the strike yet.

"We just hope for something tangible from the FG because the last proposal they made did not go down well with the union" he said.

The ongoing industrial action by ASUP is in its fourth month after the union shut their various schools on Friday, 4 October, 2013 to press home their demands from the federal government.

However, various meetings with the supervising Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike have deadlocked as both parties are yet to reach a 'common' ground.
