Former US president Donald Trump has been warned that he could face jail time after the New York Attorney General’s Office announced an investigation into the Trump Organisation.
A letter written by the New York Attorney General’s Office said that the investigation was no longer "purely civil in nature."
Former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal said that the letter announcing the investigation carried the real threat of jail time for Trump and his sons according to the Huffington Post.
He said that the letter indicated that the prosecutors believe that their case has a strong chance of success and that they believe that they can prove that the Trump Organisation allegedly committed various crimes.
Katyal also revealed that the attorney general’s office is working in cooperation with the Manhattan district attorney who was granted access to Trump's tax records after a Supreme Court battle.
He also said that it would unlikely that Trump would be able to shift the blame onto his two sons Eric and Don Jr.
Vanity Fair reported that Trump's chances of facing jail time are increasing. This comes after the former president is under increased scrutiny and faces no fewer than 29 lawsuits.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Trump’s hope of returning to Facebook and Instagram has been dashed after the social media's oversight board upheld the decision to ban the former US president.
Recall that Trump was suspended from also using Twitter on a permanent basis. The reason given by the company is that it was an effort to stop him from inciting people to do illegal things again.
He slammed the authorities and accused the FBI of double standards. Trump vaguely mentioned corruption while defending Giuliani saying that Rudy loved his country and it was sad that this happened to him.
In other news, former president Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Fox Business after the raid carried out by the FBI on Rudy Giuliani's home.
Trump reportedly said that it was "like, so unfair." Two locations were raided and federal agents confiscated computers and cell phones. This is a marked escalation in the investigation into Giuliani.
