Today would've been the late Luther Vandross' 70th birthday. Fans have been celebrating the award-winning singer's day of birth on social media and Legit.ng shares a few interesting facts about the star in his honour.

1. Relationships and personal life

Luther Vandross was never married and had no children. The late star used to make beautiful love ballads but he never legally committed to anyone by getting married. There was speculation about his sexuality at some point and the industry thought that he may have been gay.

In December 2017, his close friend Patti LaBelle confirmed that Vandross was in fact gay, stating that he hadn't come out because he knew that it would negatively affect his career.

2. Discography

The late singer had 16 studio albums at the time of his death. Luther had a soothing voice and one of his most popular albums, Dance With My Father, won four Grammys out of five nominations. The album featured Beyoncé, Foxy Brown, and Queen Latifah.

The album was certified two times platinum by RIAA and is an iconic compilation of his work that is still being played all over the world today.

3. Live performances and talent

According to Google Doodle's Twitter account, #LutherVandross also contributed to the development of almost every part of his live performances. From the design of the background singers' sparkling gowns to the stage lights that set the mood - he did it all.
