- Cristiano Ronaldo is under heavy criticism for being responsible for Juve’s Champions League exit
- Juventus were dumped out of the tournament by highly impressive FC Porto
- Club legends Fabio Capello and Del Piero are not happy with Ronaldo’s performance on the night
Following Juventus exit in the second round of this season’s Champions League, club legends Fabio Capello and Alessandro Del Piero have taken a swipe on Cristiano Ronaldo.
The striker has been criticised for being responsible for Porto’s second goal as the Portuguese club dump the Old Lady out of the competition.
Juventus were kicked out of the competition despite the Old Lady's 3-2 win in the second leg.
The reverse fixture had ended 2-1 in favour of the Portuguese club, which means Porto go through to the next stage courtesy the away goals' rule after it ended 4-4 on aggregates.
Ronaldo and his Juve teammates failed to find a way past 38-year-old Pepe and his dogged defensive colleagues, who held on to claim a famous victory in Turin.
Sergio Oliveira’s free-kick from about 30-yards beat Wojciech Szczesny to end the Old Lady’s dreams, but Ronaldo was singled-out for allowing the goal.
He was part of the four-man wall that the goalkeeper prepared or the defence of the freekick, but the ‘wall’ failed after players, including CR7, turned their back as the ball went straight into the net.
And their ex-manager Capello blasted the Portuguese superstar for not being braver. He said via Mirror:
"Certain goals cannot be conceded. Cristiano Ronaldo jumping and turning in the wall... whoever is in the wall cannot be afraid of being hit.
"It is an unforgivable mistake that has no excuse."
Former Juventus forward Del Piero was also less than impressed, and also pointed out a golden chance from a header Ronaldo missed earlier in the game. He said:
Ex-Juventus president tells club to make huge decision about Ronaldo, claims his signature is a mistake
"Cristiano must take some blame, of course. He did not have many chances but he wasted that header that we should have taken advantage of."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Juventus director Fabio Paratici has made fresh comments over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.
And after the game against Porto, there were questions as regards ageing Ronaldo’s future, but the club director insists he Portuguese striker still has another year on his contract
Juve signed Ronaldo from Real Madrid in 2018 to help the club win the Champions League after they had dominated the Serie A for more than a decade.
