Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe has named Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes as his role model.

The 20-year-old Englishman has been impactful on Arsenal's newly-found hot form, helping the Gunners pick crucial points in recent days while playing the no.10 role behind Alexander Lacazette.

The 20-year-old formed part of his side's squad that beat Newcastle United 3-0 at the Emirates on Monday night, January 18.

He set up Bukayo Saka for Arsenal's second goal of the match in the 60th minute, shortly after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had scored the opener.

He made his first start for the north London side on Boxing Day against Chelsea, a match they surprisingly won. Since then, Mikel Arteta's men are yet to lose, winning four of their last five league matches.

Smith Rowe has consequently created 10 goalscoring chances for his teammates, the second-most in the EPL.

Only United's Fernandes has more (12), a record that has seen the Arsenal wonderkid draw comparisons with the ex-Sporting Lisbon captain.

And a clearly flattered Smith Rowe did not hide his own admiration for Fernandes, revealing he draws inspiration from the Red Devils midfielder. Smith Rowe declared after helping Arsenal to a 3-0 win over Newcastle.

“I look up to Bruno Fernandes as a player. His stats are crazy.

Interestingly, Smith Rowe's emergence comes just weeks after he was linked with a loan move away from the Emirates.

However, he now appears to have nailed a key role in Arteta's team set up and will undoubtedly be afforded more playing time going forward.

The Portugal international beat the likes of Anwar El Ghazi, Emiliano Martinez, Ben Mee, Marcus Rashford, Mohamed Salah, Tomas Soucek and John Stones to win the December edition of the prestigious prize.

He scored three goals and four assists in the month under review to emerge victorious above fellow contenders.
