Daily Trust is reporting that Boko Haram insurgents are currently attacking Dapchi, the headquarters of Bursari Local government in Yobe state.

According to the report, the attackers set fire on the palace of Dapchi District head during the attack.

A source quoted in the report added that the insurgents forced many shops opened and carted away food and other items.

A resident who gave more details on the incident said the insurgents stormed the town around 6:00 pm while residents were preparing to break their Ramadan fast.

“The insurgents shot sporadically but the shooting later subsided. But as I speak to you now heavy gunshots were heard from all angles of the town which I believe to be an encounter between the insurgents and the troops,” the resident said.

He further said casualties could not be ascertained because the attack is ongoing.

Recall that on Saturday, May 16, suspected Boko Haram members carried out an attack on a community in Adamawa state in northeast Nigeria.

The fishing community called Mbemun, somewhere in Lamurde local government area was attacked by the terrorists, who set fire to many homes after storming the area in the early hours of the day.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson for the state's police command, Suleiman Nguroje, who said anti-riot officers were drafted to the area to maintain order.

Meanwhile, the ongoing onslaught against insurgency on Sunday, May 17, recorded a groundbreaking boost as 20 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists were successfully neutralised during a fierce operation near Baga community of Borno state.

A statement by the defence media operation signed by its coordinator, Major General John Enenche, disclosed that the operation was carried out by the troops of 130 Battalion with the support of Army Super Camp Baga.

In a related development, 11 ISWAP fighters on Monday, May 11 surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in Adamawa as the Nigerian military intensifies its attacks on terrorist hideouts across the northeast.
