“You don’t compare Formula 1 with karting, and I am being nice. Next…I know that I am Formula 1.

“It works because he is there, that is the only reason. It won’t be spectacular, he won’t do something amazing, but he has his thing. Aside from that, does everyone like the way he plays? I don’t know,” he said.

The France Football Federation recently confirmed that Benzema’s international career is over giving Giroud the chance to be recalled into Didier Deschamps' squad.

Benzema was involved in a blackmailing scandal with Mathieu Valbuena a few years ago which got him expelled from the national team along with the winger.

The former Lyon star has missed two international tournaments due to the ban including the Euro 2016 tournament and the 2018 World Cup.

But the Frenchman has gone on to win four Champions League titles with Los Blancos and he is currently the club's topscorer this season with 19 goals and nine assists.
