Ex-IGP Idris dismisses claims that he's invloved in Niger politics

- Former police boss, Ibrahim Idris, has denied being involved in a political campaign in Niger state

- Idris said that the sponsors of the campaign are trying to weave discord between himself and the state government

- The ex-police IG warned those behind the campaign to steer clear from the move or they will be fiercely punished by the law

The former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has responded to claims that he is involved in a political campaign in Niger state, tagged Rescue Mission.

Idris, dissociating himself from the reports, said that the tag is triggering insinuations that he is at odds with the state government, PR Nigeria reports.

The former police boss called on sponsors of what he described as a campaign to drop it or else they will have to face the weight of the law.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Bala Ibrahim, Idris said: "Indeed the sponsors had contacted him before, on their intention to draft him into the gubernatorial race, to which he told them no, unambiguously. He said he has no interest in politics, for now.

"Why they went ahead with their evidently fraudulent and wicked campaign, is extremely disturbing and undoubtedly suspicious."

He called on the public to ignore the campaign and fake report spread by fraudulent and dubious persons.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that four members of an armed robbery gang that stormed a bank in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja had been arrested while one of them was also confirmed killed.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the area just hours after the five-man gang stormed the area.

The bank confirmed the end of the horrible incident in an official statement. The management also assured that customers and staff of the institution were all safe and well.
