Two bankers face trial for reportedly assaulting actress Chioma Toplis

A magistrate court in Lagos has fixed Saturday, January 11, as the day to start the trial for two bankers, Femi Omomeji and Vivian Okoro, for allegedly assaulting and inflicting injuries on actress Chioma Toplis.

It was gathered that the two were arraigned before the magistrate court in February 2019, on a two-count charge bordering on assault occasioning bodily harm and pleaded not guilty.

However, the trial was delayed due to the fact that the victim had travelled to the United Kingdom to receive care for the injuries sustained.

The court proceedings resumed again on Monday, December 30, after the actress returned from her treatment.

According to PM News, the police prosecutor, Reuben Solomon, had told the court that Okoro, who was living in the same building with the victim at 11, Abagbon Close, Victoria Island, had attacked the actress with the help of Omomeji.

It was said that the two defendants, who are co-workers, also claim to be lovers. Solomon told the court that Toplis was in her home when the power supply suddenly went off.

She went to check on it when she found the lovers attempting to remove her meter switch. She challenged them and they beat her up and dragged her to the ground.

The actress sustained multiple fractures on her left leg and injuries all over her body from the attack.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that two police officers were caught on camera assaulting a Nigerian man in Anambra state. The video showed the officers in uniform beating up the man at the same time after an argument. In the video, it seemed like the man tried to escape after the assault began but he was cornered by the officers.
