Kogi West: Melaye makes u-turn, votes in poll despite calling for postponement

Despite calling for its postponement, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s candidate Dino Melaye has participated in the ongoing rerun election in Kogi state.

Melaye in a post on Saturday, November 30, tweeted that he has completed the process by casting his vote.

Recall that the election on November 16 was cancelled in a number of polling units as a result of violence, ballot snatching and intimidation of voters which marred the process.

However, Melaye kicked against this supplementary election when he submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Melaye approached INEC again on Wednesday, November 27, with another petition, asking the commission to act on his petition and not start preparing for a supplementary election.

The PDP candidate asked INEC to postpone the exercise, alleging that the electoral umpire did not include some of the polling units that were cancelled during the November 16, election in the forthcoming rerun.

It was reported that no INEC national commissioner was present to receive Melaye’s petition but a senior officer in the office of the commission's chairman, Jafaru Leko, received the petition.

Legit.ng had previously reported that the security operatives on Wednesday, November 27, prevented Melaye from entering into headquarters of the INEC in Abuja.
