Jose Mourinho outclasses Guardiola, others as highest-spending manager on players transfer

- The Portuguese tactician, 56, has been out of football management since he was sent packing by Man United

- Napoli boss Ancelotti and City manager Guardiola are placed joint-second

Jose Mourinho has outclassed the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola to emerge the highest-spending football manager on transfers’ record books.

According to Sportbible citing Transfermarkt, the 56-year-old Portuguese tactician, who is yet to land a new job since he was sent parking by Manchester United in December 2018, has coughed out the most cash, splashing out a massive €1.6bn on 97 signings.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is closely followed on the log by Napoli’s manager Ancelotti and City boss Guardiola, who are joint-second after spending €1.2bn on transfers.

But the Italian manager signed more players at 85 compared to Guardiola's 52.

After the trio of Mourinho, Ancelotti and Guardiola, the likes of Manuel Pellegrini, Massimiliano Allegri and Arsene Wenger took centre stage.

West Ham manager Pellegrini is placed fourth after splashing out €1.1bn on 82 signings.

Max Allegri, former Juventus boss, completes the top five after spending €1bn on 87 players.

Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports this season, Mourinho admitted he was not happy in August, after missing football management for over eight months so far.

Mourinho stressed he was even ready to manage a national team as he looks forward to vie for honour in the World Cup and Euros.

"I want to compete in new competitions," the Portuguese was quoted as saying on Eleven Sports in June.

"I think about the World Cup and the European Championships.

"For a long time, I have had the desire to try out such an adventure.

"Right now, I see myself more at a national team than with a new club,” he submitted.

Legit.ng reported earlier that Jose Mourinho has challenged new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to "grow up" through experience if he has to become a big hit at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has insisted Lampard has everything it takes to become a success at the Blues, months after making a return to the club as manager.
