- There are reports of the federal government's plan to create Fulani communities
Senator Shehu Sani has described the plan to establish Fulani settlements across the country as a recipe for disaster.
The former lawmaker from Kaduna state in a tweet on his social media page on Thursday, June 27, noted that before the sort of plan can be executed, priority must first be given to facilitating communal peace.

Sani said those talking about this plan don’t have a clear view of the situation. According to him, establishing a ‘Rugan Fulani’ settlement in some states experiencing herdsmen/farmers crisis without facilitating a comprehensive inter communal peace plan will be disastrous.
"The architects of the idea are viewing the problem from their tinted windows," he added.
In another report, Governor Emeka Ihedioha rejected the federal government’s plan to set up Ruga Farm settlements for herdsmen in Imo state. The governor wondered about the rationale behind the initiative for a herdsmen settlement in his state, when none exists in any of the northern states.
Meanwhile, the Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) rejected the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN)’s call for the creation of a vigilance group in the southeast.
MACBAN had made the demand during a security summit in Enugu state. The summit was convened by the Southeast Governors’ Forum.
However, in a statement by the OYC on Monday, June 24, the group said there is already a security threat in the region.

The group said there was already an unofficial vigilance group in the region as most houses hire Fulani youths as security men and that an official group would lead to problem.
