Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti state, has queried the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) about what was delaying the prosecution of Babachir Lawal, the former secretary to the government of the federation.

Legit.ng notes that he asked the anti graft agency if it was waiting for the former SGF to travel out of the country, the way the former director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke and his wife, Folashade, allegedly did.

He tweeted:

The EFCC is prosecuting the former NIA boss and his wife over the $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 which was linked to them after being recovered from a luxury apartment in Ikoyi.

A Senate committee had indicted Lawal, following investigation into the management of money meant to assist IDP’s. He was subsequently removed from office.

The anti graft agency filed 10 charges against the former SGF bordering on fraud allegations, at a Federal High Court in Abuja in January 2019.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the judge presiding over the N2.2 billion fraud trial of ex governor Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday, threatened to jail Musiliu Obanikoro if he failed to appear before the court.

The threat was given by Justice Mojisola, following the absence of the former minister, who is standing as one of witnesses to the corruption trial of the former Ekiti governor.

The prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs, had told the judge that Obanikoro, who earlier testified against Fayose, had been hospitalised.
