Recovered bodies of policemen spark protest in Kaduna

- The recovered bodies of some police officers killed by bandits has sparked protest in Kaduna

- The officers took to the street in protest of the their lost colleagues

- They also shot severally into the air, killing a widow

Some police officers on Tuesday, July 17, hit the streets of Kaduna to protest the killing of two of their colleagues by some suspected bandits in Birnin-Gwari local government area of of the state.

The officers began the protest after the bodies of their dead colleague were recovered.

While, protesting, the police officers shot sporadically into the air to register grievance over the continued loss of personnel to bandits in the state.

Unfortunately, a stray bullet from the protesting officers hit a widow while, other residents of the area were seen running helter-skelter for their lives. The women was pronounced dead.

However, confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kaduna police command, Mukhtar Aliyu, said the officers were killed in an ambush by some unidentified gunmen.

Aliyu said: "The Kaduna State Police Command wishes to categorically state that, on 16/07/2018 at about 1830hrs, a team of police officers on special duty, while on routine patrol at Tabanni Village along Birnin-Gwari – Funtua Road, were ambushed and attacked by unidentified armed men.

“The police team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle and at the end, two of the unidentified gunmen were killed and one AK-47 rifle was recovered. Unfortunately, two police officers lost their lives in the incident. However, the situation has been promptly brought under control."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that seven police officer where killed by some unknown gunmen in Galadimawa area of Abuja. The gunmen were said to have opened fire on the officers station at the duty post killing seven of them.

Also, many residents who ran helter-skelter sustained various injuries during the incident.

Residents said the gunmen were stopped for search when they opened fire on the unsuspecting policemen which led to the death of seven while one was seriously injured.
