Chris Ngige reportedly escapes mob attack as Anambra APC meeting turns violent

- Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, was reported to have escaped mob attack in Anambra state

- He was alleged to be trying to manipulate the result of the ward congress in his favour

- Candidate of the APC in the November 18, 2017 governorship election, Dr Tony Nwoye was said to have openly accused Ngige of plotting to hijack the party structure

Dr Chris Ngige, Nigeria's minister of Labour and Employment has reportedly escaped mob attack at a meeting of the All Progressives Congress in a hotel in Awka, Anambra state.

Punch reports that the meeting was for the harmonisation of the results of the recently held party’s ward congress.

It was also reported that the minster was whisked away by security agencies as gunshots pervaded the scene.

Ngige was alleged to be trying to manipulate the result of the ward congress in his favour.

Ali, a member of the state’s ward congress committee, was said to have been beaten to pulp over allegation that he was among those drafted in the state to work in favour of Ngige.

Dr Tony Nwoye, candidate of the APC in the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state was said to have also accused Ngige of plotting to hijack the party in the state.

Nwoye was quoted to have said that: “Some of you here worked against me during that election, but my joy is that I lost the election and you lost too because most of you have not risen beyond the falling point.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the APC has congratulated all its members for the conduct of the party's ward congresses which took place across the country over the weekend.

The party described the exercise as “peaceful,” while commending members who served in the congress committees “for their dedication and impartiality.”
