Legit.ng gathers that the minister commended the AU’s selection of President Buhari, to lead the continent’s fight against corruption.

He stated that the appointment showed that Buhari is winning the anti-corruption war back home.

In recognition of his personal commitment and acclaimed anti-graft drive at the domestic level, the AU had nominated President Buhari to champion its anti-corruption drive at its 29th Summit in July 2017.

The nomination was accepted by the president in a letter to the AU's outgoing chairperson, President Alpha Conde of Guinea, on July 25, 2017.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the reported naming of President Muhammadu Buhari as the AU anti-corruption champion was described as ‘Africa’s joke of the year’ by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The party in a statement released on Monday, January 29, by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, insisted that the honour was laughable because the African Union was not aware of the series of alleged corrupt activities recorded under the Buhari administration so far.

It accused the federal government of trying to use the honour conferred on Buhari to laud its dented image.
