Wanted kidnap suspect who allegedly killed British missionary surrenders to army in Delta state

The suspected mastermind of the abduction and subsequent killing of one of the four British missionaries at Enekorogha community, Burutu council area of Delta state last year, has reportedly surrendered himself to the military at Ogbogbagbene community in Burutu council area of the state on Thursday, January 11.

The suspect, Peregbakumo Oyawerikumo, is also alleged to have led the gang responsible for the beheading and killing of a Nigerian Navy Captain in Toru-Ndoro community, Ekeremor council area of Bayelsa state, The Punch reports.

The alleged kidnap kingpin, also known as Karowei, and his gangs were alleged to have killed British missionary, Ian Squire, 57, during the October 13 abduction of the Christian missionaries in Delta state.

He was declared wanted after strings of crimes were linked to his gang and had been on the run.

According to military sources, the suspect voluntarily surrendered himself to the military at Ogbogbagbene community in Burutu council area of Delta state.

Meanwhile, the director general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside, has alleged that Governor Nyesom Wike’s amnesty programme in Rivers state was done to a cover up criminals.

Dakuku in a series of tweets on Wednesday, January 9, said the wave of violence in the state was evidence that governance was lacking.

He described Wike’s cash bounty on notorious cultists, kidnappers in local government areas of Rivers as a ploy to cover the failure of his regime to protect the people he swore to protect.
