Kadiri Ikhana Resumes With Nasarawa United As New Coach

Former Super Falcons coach Kadiri Ikhana has taken over the reins at Nasarawa United after Alphonsus Dike was fired for a string of poor results.

The Lafia side has a new coach after its former handler was fired for poor performance in the league

The Lafia side started the season with so much promise and were in the top seven for many weeks during the first stanza but the team has started losing steam since the commencement of the second stanza and are now a place away from the bottom of the log with 33 points from 26 games.

The management of the club gave coach Dike led team a two-match ultimatum after their unconvincing 1-1 draw at home to Warri Wolves in a game they lost two spot kicks to the angst of the home fans.

Nasarawa lost at Kaduna United 1-2 and only barely scraped through Kwara United 2-1 last Sunday during period of the two game grace granted Dike and his back room staff.

Ikhana, whose last assignment was guiding the Super Falcons to fourth place at the African Women's Championship held in Equatorial Guinea, has replaced Dike and given firm instructions to return the Lafia side to winning ways.

Ikhana in the past infamously said he was done with coaching in Nigeria when he left Sharks of Port Harcourt only for him to resurface at Kwara United some seasons back.

Nasarawa United are not happy with the performance of the team and feel they must do everything possible to remain in the Premier League.

Club chairman Isaac Danladi noted that they will approach the remaining 12 games with all seriousness it deserves.

"We have a new coach and he is well experienced to give us what we want this season. We are determined to escape relegation and that is the mandate given to the new coach," Danladi said.
