Aso Rock, Abuja - President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, April 1.

The urgent meeting was regarding the recent night attack in Jos that left several residents dead and wounded.

Recall that suspected gunmen on Sunday night, March 29, launched an attack on residents of Agwan Rukuba in Jos North local government area of Plateau state, leaving an unconfirmed number of people dead.

Witnesses said the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, invaded the community at about 7.30pm, shooting sporadically and sending residents fleeing for safety.

As reported by Daily Trust, eyewitnesses said that the assailants struck while people were still outdoors, going about their usual activities.

“They came suddenly and started shooting. People were running in different directions. It was chaos,” the source said.

Plateau attack: Casualty figures remain unclear

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to confirm the number of fatalities, with residents still working to identify victims of the attack.

Sources within the community said the attackers fled immediately after carrying out the assault, leaving behind scenes of confusion and grief. Eyewitnesses claimed that the situation turned violent, with several commercial tricycle operators, commonly known as NAPEP riders, and their passengers allegedly being attacked.

During the audience, President Tinubu was briefed in detail by Governor Mutfwang on the tragic events and the measures being taken to ensure the safety of residents.

According to a social media update from Daddy D.O, a presidential aide, the President “received a briefing as regards the recent killings in the state,” signalling a high-level engagement on the security situation.

Nigerians react to meeting

Reacting to the meeting, Nigerians have expressed different opinion about the matter.

UniJos suspends exams after attack

Legit.ng previously reported that the University of Jos has suspended all examinations scheduled for Monday, 30 March, and Tuesday, March 31, following heightened tensions in Jos, Plateau state, after a night-time attack in Angwan Rukuba.

In a statement on Sunday, Emmanuel Madugu, the Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations, said the decision was prompted by the fatal attack by unknown gunmen on residents, including staff and students.

The University management urged the community to exercise extreme caution in and around campus. Eyewitnesses said that the gunmen, who arrived on motorcycles at about 7:30 pm, fired indiscriminately while residents were going about their normal activities.
