The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral notice circulating on social media about a purported 2025 recruitment exercise.

The notice, which claimed that applications would commence on Monday, 22 September 2025, has been labelled fake by the Force.

False claim of recruitment exercise

The fake notice alleged that the Nigeria Police Force intended to inform the general public about a 2025 recruitment exercise for suitably qualified candidates, scheduled to commence on Monday, 22 September.

According to the false information, applications were to be invited from Nigerians with SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB certificates with at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, as well as OND, HND, and B.Sc. holders from recognised institutions in relevant disciplines.

The notice further listed requirements, saying applicants must be Nigerian citizens, possess a National Identity Number, and be between 18 and 25 years for SSCE/OND holders or not more than 28 years for HND/B.Sc. holders.

Fake NPC notice: Application procedure detailed

It also specified a minimum height of 1.67 metres for males and 1.64 metres for females, as well as evidence of medical fitness. Female applicants, it added, must not be pregnant at the time of application.

The viral notice also outlined an application process, claiming that interested candidates were to log on to an official recruitment portal, complete an online form with accurate personal and academic details, and upload scanned copies of certificates, a birth certificate, and a certificate of origin.

Reacting, the NPF via X described the notice as fake.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced plans to decentralise recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from 2025, giving state recruitment desk officers a greater role in the process.

PSC spokesperson Mr Ikechukwu Ani disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, following a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Ignore fake recruitment adverts, PSC urges Nigerians

The Commission, in the statement via X, strongly advised Nigerians to disregard any recruitment advertisements not officially released through its authorised channels.

“The Commission wishes to state that the stories currently circulating on social media indicating that the exercise has started and inviting applications are misleading and mischievous,” Ani said.

He added,

36 governors finally endorse state police

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the National Economic Council (NEC) said it has received reports from the 36 state governors on the establishment of the state police.

NEC made this disclosure on Thursday, December 12, after its meeting, which was chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima and attended by state governors, deputy governors, ministers, and some presidential aides.

He revealed that the state governors have backed the establishment of state police. However, Sani noted that deliberations on the matter were postponed until the next NEC meeting in January 2025.
