Three internet fraudsters arrested during a sting operation at a hotel near the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta have been convicted and sentenced by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, on Monday delivered judgment against Oyatokun Damilola Qudus, Adenekan Adewole Ayinde, and Adisa Okikiade after they pleaded guilty to separate charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Commission prosecuted the case.
Court convicts three fraudsters
The EFCC had arraigned the three on one-count charges each, all bordering on impersonation and internet fraud. Court filings showed that Qudus operated an Instagram account under the false identity of “Eric Melissa,” while Ayinde posed as a white woman from the United States through a Google account, and Okikiade impersonated one “Anthony Krenn” on Google.
Each of the defendants admitted using these fake identities for personal gain.
Prosecution counsel S. M. Yabo presented evidence, including their extra-judicial statements, phones used to commit the offences, and restitution made by Ayinde. Exhibits admitted by the court included Ayinde’s iPhone 14 Pro, Okikiade’s Infinix smartphone, forensic reports, and a N200,000 bank draft deposited as part restitution.
After reviewing the guilty pleas and facts of the case, Justice Dipeolu found all three defendants guilty.
Defence lawyers, however, appealed for leniency, describing their clients as first-time offenders who had expressed remorse.
Court gives convicts fine options
In her ruling, Justice Dipeolu sentenced Qudus to one month imprisonment from the date of arrest, with an option of a N300,000 fine. Ayinde, who had received $180 from his fraudulent dealings, was sentenced to one month imprisonment with the option of a N250,000 fine.

Okikiade was also sentenced to one month in custody with an option of a N100,000 fine, while his Infinix smartphone was ordered forfeited to the government.
The EFCC noted that the three were part of 93 suspects arrested during the sting operation in Abeokuta on August 10, 2025.
The Commission said the convictions reflect its commitment to securing justice in cases of cybercrime and deterring young Nigerians from internet fraud.
