Nigerian Society of Engineers Confers Presidential Award of Excellence on 55 Distinguished Engineers
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigeria's statutory professional engineering body, held its 2023 National Engineering Conference, Exhibition and Annual General Meeting at the Abuja International Conference Centre from November 27 to November 30, 2023.
The theme of the event was "Re-engineering the Manufacturing Sector for Competitiveness and Economic Growth."
The NSE conference attracted over 5,000 participants, including Nigeria's Vice-President Kashim Shettima, several state governors, and federal ministers.

The Vice-President, who delivered remarks, was conferred with an Honorary Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, highlighting the event's national significance.
The conference featured plenary sessions, technical symposia, exhibitions, and a policy forum focused on strengthening Nigeria's manufacturing sector.
The NSE conferred Fellowships on deserving members during the opening ceremony.
Prominent figures, such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, were present to lend their support and recognise the Society's achievements. Their attendance underscores the prestige of the event and the esteem in which the NSE is held.
The centrepiece of the conference was the conferment of the Presidential Award of Excellence on fifty-five (55) engineers.
According to the NSE's description, the award represents the Society's highest professional honour and is reserved for the top one per cent of its membership.
Unlike the routine elevation to Fellow (FNSE), the Presidential Award of Excellence is not automatically awarded every year; it is bestowed only when the Society's President deems that particular engineers have achieved exceptional professional distinction, demonstrated leadership, and made significant contributions to national development.
Recipients of the 2023 award come from academia, public service, and industry, representing fields such as infrastructure development, manufacturing, digital technologies, energy, transportation, and engineering education.
Collectively, their achievements illustrate how Nigerian engineers drive innovation, sustain economic growth, and enhance the country's global reputation.
By honouring 55 engineers at this level, the NSE underscored its commitment to recognising outstanding professional excellence.
The Society emphasised that the Presidential Award of Excellence not only acknowledges past achievements but also charges awardees with the responsibility to mentor younger engineers, advance ethical standards, and champion national engineering priorities.
In his address, the NSE President reminded honourees that their elevation places them among the Society's most distinguished ranks and that their continued service is essential to Nigeria's industrial transformation.
The 2023 NSE National Engineering Conference and AGM marked a milestone for Nigerian engineering.
With participation from senior government officials, international engineering bodies, and thousands of professionals, the conference showcased the central role of engineering in Nigeria's development agenda.
The conferment of the Presidential Award of Excellence on 55 engineers reinforced the NSE's message that excellence, innovation, and public service are the hallmarks of the profession.
