Chibok LGA Under Massive Attack By Boko Haram Gunmen, 56 Killed

A massive attack by suspected Boko Haram members started in Kautikari, Kwada and Nguragila villages near Chibok in Borno State in the morning of June 29, 2014, Sunday, killing at least 56 people and burning down several houses, according to sahara reporters.

The terrorists reportedly dressed in military camouflage were said to have targeted churches when worshipers were gathering for the Sunday Service.

According to a source, the militants arrived in the villages in a convoy of sports utility vehicles and unleashed terror on villagers for several hours. Their killing spree reportedly lasted till 12:30 p.m.

Ibrahim Musa, a resident of Kautikari village, told Sahara reporters that the attackers “locked worshipers inside the EYN Church and sprayed bullets on them.” He disclosed that the terrorist group killed nine worshipers and later set the church ablaze.

Mr. Musa said the Islamist terrorists killed 38 people in Kwada village and nine in Nguragila village. He added that the attackers set fire to the EYN Church, the Deeper Life Church, and the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN). In addition, the terrorists burned numerous homes.

Manaseh Allen, a Chibok-based youth leader, also confirmed today’s coordinated attacks on the three villages. “There is confusion everywhere in the Chibok area,” he said, adding, “If the attackers could succeed in day time, what if they come in the night?” He urged the federal government to redouble its commitment to combating terrorism.

Meanwhile according to Reuters, Boko Haram fighters killed at least 10 people in one place only, while at least five churches in the area have reportedly been hit with small arms and bombs.

According to PremiumTimes, the attack started in Kwada (about 10 km from Chibok). The gunmen targeted worshippers, set at least four churches ablaze, including COCCIN church, Deeper Life Bible Church and EYN church.

A resident of Kwada, who introduced himself as Mallam Yahi, informed that armed men attacked the residents and burnt Churches and houses in his home village, before relocating to Kautikari.

The information on Kautikari attack was forwarded by residents directly to the newsmen. It has been also gathered that the villagers in Chibok made a distress call to security operatives in Maiduguri, requesting for urgent assistance and protection.

DSS official, who spoke to PremiumTimes on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development:
