Brazilian football legend Pele has recieved his COVID-19 vaccine in his home city of Santos and has expressed gratitude after he was injected in his right arm, Daily Mail

The Santos icon took to his 5.7million followers on his Instagram handle to say "Today is an unforgettable day.
"I received the vaccine. But the pandemic is not over yet. We must keep discipline to preserve lives until many people have taken the vaccine.
"Please continue to wash your hands and stay home if possible. When you go out please don't forget your mask and maintain social distance. This will pass if we can think of others and help each other."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Brazil legend Pele is no doubt one of the greatest football stars in the world but in spite of his greatness, he had some low moments in his career.

The 80-year-old won the FIFA World Cup three times but missed out on the 1966 edition in England following their ouster at the group stage.

They finished third on the table with two points behind Portugal (6 points) and Hungary (4 points) having won the title back to back before the '66 edition.

Legit.ng also reported that Pele's legendary status in football is second to none and his influence in the round leather game has been unmatched until today.

The Brazilian icon once landed in Nigeria during the civil war and there was a ceasefire when Santos played two friendlies against the Super Eagles in 1969.

Santos pulled out of the Copa Libertadores - the South American version of the Champions League as they began a world tour.
