- The government of Rivers says it knows nothing about the campaign posters with the state governor's pictures that were spotted in Abuja
- The posters suggested the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike, could be nursing a presidential ambition for 2023
- Paulinus Nsirim who serves as the information commissioner described the posters as the hand work of mischief-makers
Following the circulation of campaign posters of Governor Nyesom Wike in Abuja, the Rivers state government has distanced itself from the flyers for the 2023 presidential race, The Guardian reports.
A statement by Paulinus Nsirim, the commissioner for information and communication, stated that the posters were the hand work of mischief-makers who are threatened by Wike’s rising political profile.
Legit.ng recalls that two different types of presidential campaign posters bearing the name and pictures of the Rivers governor were spotted in Abuja, on Monday, January 25.
According to Nsirim, the Rivers state governor has not informed anyone of his interest in the presidency of this country.
The commissioner went on to note that Wike is presently preoccupied with his mission to make the state a better place and destination of choice.
Yahaya Bello's presidential campaign posters
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that supporters of Yahaya Bello were serious about their hopes for the Kogi state governor to contest the 2023 presidential election. Signs of this had surfaced with Bello's posters flooding Dutse, the capital of Jigawa state.
The governor's posters for the presidential campaign ahead of the 2023 general election were seen in most of the roads and streets in the capital and many parts of the state.
It was gathered that the posters may have been pasted across the state by volunteer youth groups.
In a related development, a group, South West Youth Coalition launched a 10,000 youth trek from Lagos to Bauchi for Governor Bala Mohammed to be the next Nigerian president.
The group inaugurated the “Bala Initiative with 10,000 youth foot-match from Lagos to Bauchi.” to prevail on Mohammed to aspire to become president in 2023.
