There is a change of leadership at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as Professor Kab‎ir Bala has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the university.

Daily Trust reports that the university's governing council announced Bala who is a professor of Building as the new vice-chancellor of the university on Wednesday, January 22.

Legit.ng gathers that Bala emerged the new VC of the prestigious university located in the northern part of the country out of more than 15 professors who passed through intense scrutiny.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring out on social media shortly after the news of Professor Bala's appointment filtered out.

Halliru A Shehu posted on Facebook: "Congrats Prof. Kabiru Bala, may Almighty Allah strengthen you, have the ability to overcome all the challenges in the academic environment as a whole. Ameen."

"May ALLAH Guide Him Right Path," Usman Mainu, another Facebook user, posted.

"Congratulations to the new VC I wish him succee. And Arewa first should be his top of priority," @GamboIbraheem posted on Twitter.

Another Twitter user, @AyMuax, tweeted: "May Almighty Allah guide him through and allow him to be fair mindedness."

In other news, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), has lamented that there are over 100 fake professors in the Nigerian university system.

The NUC boss said the fake professors were uncovered during a verification exercise.

“As part of the measures at repositioning our universities, the NUC, through its STRADCOM, recently verified and published a full directory of professors in the Nigerian university system.

“In the process of validating the submissions, university Senates have, in some cases, uncovered that quite a number of professors are either fake or are yet to mature to full professors,” Rasheed disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja.

Similarly, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria’s socio-economic and political salvation would come from education.

Legit.ng reports that the president, who made this known on Monday, December 2, urged citizens to embrace learning as a way of life and that the government would do its best to provide access.

A statement issued by the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said the president, who was honoured in his country home, Daura, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of community secondary school, noted that he became an orphan at a young age.
