2023 presidency: Nigeria's next president must come from southwest - Ogun APC chairman

- While the administration of President Buhari is three years away from expiring, the southwest is already warming up to produce the next Nigerian leader

- The APC chairman in Ogun state, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, has said that it is the turn of the southwest to take over leadership of the country after Buhari

- Famodun said that commonsense reveals that a Yoruba man should be the next president of Nigeria

Prince Adegboyega Famodun, the chairman of the All progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state, has said that the southwest must produce Nigeria's next president.

Famodun said that although the constitution of the APC at the national level has no provision for rotation, commonsense is there for all to see that it is now the turn of the geopolitical region to take over leadership of the country, Daily Trust reports.

The APC boss in Ogun said: “The north has had enough. Southwest should be allowed to produce the next president after the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He further arguid that Obasanjo's administration was actually a compensation to the southwest and that now that the north is in power, a Yoruba man should be the next in line.

Famodun admitted that he will not be happy if the north retains power after Buhari's tenure expires in 2023.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a chieftain of the APC, Lanre Razak, had expressed the hope that national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, would succeed President Buhari in 2023.

Razak, a former Lagos state commissioner for transport and a member of the APC Governors’ Advisory Council (GAC), told newsmen in an interview that Tinubu is the best person for the job.

He said he and other Tinubu loyalists have urged the APC leader to run for the presidency of Nigeria in 2023 whether he likes it or not.

“We have found in him all the attributes required of a 21st-century leader and potential presidential candidate and we don’t want a situation whereby there will be lamentation that he was the best president that Nigeria never had,” Razak said.
