Bayelsa election: APC has no candidate for poll - Court rules

- The All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be represented in the Bayelsa governorship election slated for Saturday, November 16

- This follows a Federal High Court declaration that the APC in the state has no candidate for the forthcoming election

- The verdict of the court was delivered by Jane Inyang in the case filed by Heineken Lokpobiri, one of the APC governorship aspirants who lost in the primaries

The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa on Thursday, November 14, ruled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no candidate for the forthcoming governorship poll in the state.

In reaction to this, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the court declared that the APC cannot field any candidate ahead of the poll.

The PDP, therefore, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take note of the decision of the Federal High Court.

This is the verdict of the court delivered by Justice Jane Inyang in the case filed by Heineken Lokpobiri, one of the APC governorship aspirants in the state.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC governorship candidate for the forthcoming election in Bayelsa state would know his fate on Thursday, November 14, as the Federal High Court, Yenagoa, was getting ready to deliver judgement in a suit challenging his candidacy.

Lokpobiri claimed that he won the primary, and therefore, should be declared the authentic governorship candidate of the APC.

Meanwhile, in another development, the PDP had claimed that the APC and its candidate have been disqualified by an Abuja court.

The claim by the opposition PDP, which was posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday, November 13, had however not been confirmed by any official court pronouncement at the time of filing this report.

Legit.ng previously reported that the court on Tuesday, November 12, disqualified the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, over false information that he gave in his CF0001 form submitted to the INEC for the November 16 election.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgement, said Degi-Eremienyo gave false information in relation to his educational qualifications and went ahead to depose to an affidavit to correct the discrepancies.
