2 important personalities targeted for Boko Haram attack - Zamfara governor raises allegation

- The Zamfara state government accused some politicians of plotting to destabilise the state

The Zamfara state government has raised serious allegation against some unnamed politicians, claiming they are collaborating with Boko Haram to launch attack in the state.

Premium Times reports that the government made this allegation in a statement issued by the director general, press affairs, Zamfara Government House, Yusuf Gusau.

The government said it has received intelligence report that some politicians in the state “are making clandestine moves to destabilise the state.”

Although no names were mention, the statement claimed politicians are collaborating with “dispersed elements of Boko Haram, to launch a series of attacks on innocent residents.”

The government said the effort it was making to establish peace and dialogue was being targeted.

The cruel and mischievous elements have perfected plans to launch the attacks in seven local government areas of the state and other strategic places within the state capital.”

The statement also alleged that “two important personalities of the state are also targeted for elimination.”

The targeted local governments include Gusau which doubles as the state capital, Tsafe, Talata Mafara, Anka, Zurmi, Maru and Maradun. The strategic places targeted are Gusau Central Mosque and Gusau Mammy Market where soft targets are known to gather both at day and night.

“The Boko Haram elements were said to have been recruited from far and wide to carry out these heinous acts slated for between Monday 23rd September to 25th October 2019,” the statement added.

The government official said security of lives and properties remain a priority and urged people living in the listed local government areas to report strange movement to security operatives.

Gusau advised the people not to be alarmed by presence of armed security agents saying the move is to sustain peace.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army commenced a new operation in the northeastern region of Nigeria to tackle the menace of Boko Haram terrorists in the area.

The new operation, the Nigerian Army said is aimed at searching and arresting all fleeing members of Boko Haram and ISWAP elements that roam some parts of the northeastern region of the country.

A statement by the Nigerian Army said the Operation Positive Identification became necessary due to credible information that some of the fleeing criminals are hibernating in some towns and villages of Borno and Yobe states.
