- Benue APC reacted to the defection of Governor Samuel Ortom to PDP

- 15 senators and 35 members of House of Representatives had on Tuesday, July 24, defected to PDP and ADC

- Abba Yaro, who is the APC chairman in Benue state, said that those who left the party have deficiency

The Benue state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has reacted to the exit of the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, fifteen senators and thirty-five members of the House of Representatives from its platform.

This Day reports that the state chairman of the party, Abba Yaro, while speaking to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, on Thursday, July 26, said that the mass exodus was a welcome development as the ruling party has been relieved of their detestable deficiencies and anti-party activities dragging the party backwards.

Legit.ng gathered that Yaro said most of the senators and members of the House of Representatives that defected from the APC to other parties were not only ungrateful but deceptive, stressing that the affected members foresaw their irrelevance in the party and have been pushed away by divinity to pave the way for men and women of honour that would embrace the people-oriented manifestoes of the ruling APC.

Yaro, however, stated that the greatest problem in the Nigerian politics is that party affiliation is not based on principles or ideology but on conspiracy by few persons to capture power for individual enrichment, adding that those who left the party were fortune seekers who never provided their constituents good governance.

Yaro declared that the APC would win any election in the polling booths of those former members of the party.

He said only the defections of President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the party would have copious effect on the party.

Also the director of publicity of the party in the state, Apeh Peterhot, urged every member of the party to remain steadfast and focused on the strategies that would give the APC a resounding victory in the 2019 general elections.

Apeh who said there would always be defections and realignment during every electioneering year, asked the members, supporters and the fans of the party to remain steadfast in their faith in the APC, maintaining that APC as opposition party in 2014/2015 had fewer seats in the National Assembly before crumbling the PDP in the 2015 elections.
