Luck has favoured two Nigerian naval officers who were kidnapped along Jaji-Kaduna express road as they narrowly escaped from their abductors.
The naval officers Lt-Commander S. Ahmed, a Weapon Electrical and Electronics/ Special Boat Services(WEE/SBS), operative and Lieutenant-Commander Maigado, a pilot and personnel of the Air Warfare Wing (AWW), were kidnapped, on Saturday, at about 10pm, Daily Sun reports.
The news outlet reports that Maigado had traveled to the Armed Forces Command And Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, to deliver lecture to junior course students of Maritime warfare department of the college.
On his way back to Kaduna, he was said to have been accompanied by Lt.-Comdr. Ahmed, when they were kidnapped.
They were said to have run into a roadblock mounted by the kidnappers dressed in military camouflage after Marraba-Jos, junction and were forced out at gunpoint.
After dispossessing them of their wallets and phones, the kidnappers, totaling five in numbers, reportedly marched the officers into a bush and trekked for about four hours and stopped to take a rest.
On their way, it was reported that one of the officers pretended to have stepped on a thorn as he was barefooted. He was said have kicked one of the kidnappers on the head in the process of removing the thorn. The kidnapper was said to have fallen over a ridge while they took to their heel.
“The kidnappers pursued them. As the officers got close to a hamlet they (naval officers) began to shout, calling out people to help. When people began to respond, the kidnappers turned and scampered away in the opposite direction.
“The officers continued walking until they got to a small community near a major road at about 0030hours.
“With the help of the people of this community, the officers contacted one Lieutenant-Commander S.M. Jibia, a student at AFCSC Jaji who, in turn, informed a member of Directing Staff. Shortly after, troops from 4 Demonstrations Battalion were immediately mobilised to evacuate the officers.

“Also, the vehicle was recovered from the police at about 0100. Lt Cdr S Ahmed is currently in AFCSC Jaji while Lt Cdr AI Maigado arrived Lagos at about 0850 this morning to resume flying duties.
“The officers are mentally and physically stable,” a source told the news outlet.
