2019: No one has the right to tell Buhari not to run - Lawmaker

- A member of the Osun state House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has defended Buhari’s decision to seek re-election in 2019

- He said Buhari’s fate would be determined by the electorate, and that a second term would enable him take Nigeria to great heights

- The lawmaker described the president as a bonafide Nigerian and said his decision to re-contest is not in violation of the constitution

President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to seek re-election in 2019 has been described as a good omen for the anti-corruption fight, by a member of the Osun state House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, Vanguard reports.

According to him, Buhari should be commended for his determination to wage the war against corruption beyond 2019.

Legit.ng gathers that the lawmaker stated that as a first term president, Buhari had a constitutional right to seek re-election. He opined that a second term would give the president time to finish his good work.

He pointed out that Buhari’s fate would be determined by the electorate, and stressed that no one had the right to tell him not to re-contest. Oyintiloye also said Buhari's second term would aid Nigeria in reaching great heights in all aspects.

In his words: “There is no doubt that the president is good enough to be considered for a second term. Although things are not really working the way we expected, but with the foundation the president has put in place in the last 3 years, his re-election will consolidate the gain.

“The president is a bonafide Nigerian; he has every right to seek for re-election and he has not in any way violated the constitution."

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari announced that he would seek re-election in the 2019 presidential election.

The development was made public by the president's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmed, who took to his Twitter handle, @BashirAhmaad, to announce the development on Monday, April 9.

He further disclosed that the president made the announcement during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
