A Nigerian wedding planner has gone viral after sharing a quiet, heartbreaking moment she witnessed on the job that she said she could not shake off even after returning home that night.

Wedding planner laments over lack of gifts

When the MC called for guests to bring their gifts to the stage, @theolakitan was too occupied with her duties to pay attention.

A second announcement followed, then a third. It was only on the third call that she looked up, and what she saw stayed with her.

The couple sat on stage, looking out at the crowd and waiting. From where she stood, she said they appeared visibly let down.

What made the moment sting more, she explained, was how invisible it was to everyone else.

Guests were chatting, eating, snapping photos, and preparing to leave, oblivious to the stillness on stage.

She was careful to acknowledge the financial pressures that come with attending weddings in Nigeria.

Between aso-ebi fabric, outfits, makeup, transportation, and spraying money on the dance floor, showing up to celebrate someone already demands a huge amount. She said she understood that completely.
