A touching story has melted hearts online as an Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) graduate celebrated bagging his degree after losing his lovely mother to the cold hands of death.

The ABU graduate, identified as Philip Atilola, took to the microblogging platform, X, on March 31, 2026, to share how he finally made it out despite struggling with his mother's death.

ABU graduate bags degree, dedicates to mother

He also spoke about how he was delayed while at the university. According to him, what was supposed to be a smooth four-year academic journey stretched into six years. He spoke about how those six years were filled with self-doubt, failures, personal growth, and sadly, the heartbreaking loss of his mother.

He also shared lovely photos of him with his awards. He apparently finished as the second-best graduating student of the department of Political Science. Apart from that, he also bagged six other awards.

These are the other six awards he had:

  • Most improved member award ENACTUS ABU 2025.
  • Growth & personal development award THE LOVE TRIBE 2025 BSFABU.
  • Editor-in-chief (NAPSS ABU 2025).
  • Financial secretary 2023/24 session (BSFABU).
  • Technical Director 2025 (ENACTUS ABU).
  • Chief whip, NAPSS Parliament 2024/25

He decided to dedicate all that he had achieved to his late mother.

Narrating his story on X, he said:

"What started as a 4-year journey became 6 years.
In between, I failed, doubted, grew… and lost my mum 💔
But I didn’t stop.
Graduated strong. This degree is for her 🎓"
