NPA Facilitates Release of NDPHC Power Equipment Stuck at Nigerian Ports

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has helped recover and clear power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) that had been sitting idle at several Nigerian seaports, the NDPHC confirmed following a management visit to the NPA's Lagos office.
NDPHC Managing Director Engr. Jennifer Adighije led her team on a courtesy visit to NPA Managing Director Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho over the weekend to acknowledge the authority's role in resolving the matter.

NDPHC warns of project risks
A statement sighted by Legit.ng on Monday, August 24, Adighije said the stranded equipment was essential to the execution of active and planned power infrastructure projects across Nigeria.
She warned that continued delays in recovering the consignments would have pushed up project costs, disrupted timelines and ultimately slowed efforts to improve electricity supply in the country.
"The NPA's intervention had not only facilitated the recovery of the valuable equipment but had also saved the NDPHC billions of naira in potential losses," she said.
Beyond clearing the backlog, the NDPHC boss used the occasion to push for deeper, more sustained cooperation between the two agencies and other government bodies in the energy and maritime sectors.
She said bureaucratic bottlenecks remained a recurring obstacle to timely project execution and called for structural measures to prevent similar holdups in the future.
Adighije stressed that contractors and project teams needed uninterrupted access to materials to keep work on schedule, adding that port clearance delays for power-sector equipment carried direct consequences for Nigeria's infrastructure development.
NPA pledges continued support
Responding, Dantsoho welcomed the visit and said the NPA would maintain its commitment to partnerships that serve the national interest.

He noted that dependable electricity supply was central to economic growth and industrialisation, and that the NPA would continue to support the movement and clearance of equipment critical to infrastructure projects.
He assured the NDPHC delegation that the authority remained open to further engagement with government agencies whose operations contribute to the broader Nigerian economy.
NPA records high growth in 2025
