Breaking: Lamentation as Bauchi LG Chairman Dies, Details Emerge

Yakubu Garba Tela, the executive chairman of the Dambam local government area of Bauchi state, has reportedly died after a brief illness.

His death was announced by Mukhtar Gidado, the special adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi on media and publicity, in a statement on Saturday, September 27.

Daily Trust reported that the governor described the late council chairman as a strong community leader, a dedicated public servant and grassroots mobiliser. He was said to have devoted his time and life to the people's service and development during his time in office at the Dambam LG.

Bala explained that the council chair's death weighed heavily on his heart with deep sorrow. He mourned the demise of Tela and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also sent his condolences to the people of Dambam LGA, colleagues in the local government system and the state at large for the loss.

Governor Bala sacks a teacher

Recently, the administration of Governor Bala in Bauchi announced the sacking of a teacher known as Emos Joshua over sexual harassment allegations. The teacher, Joshua, is said to be a Principal Assistant Education Officer at Government College, Azare.

Saleh Umar, the spokesperson of the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission (CSC), disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, September 11. Bauchi was not the only state where civil servants were sacked in September 2025.

Gov Otti sacks 6 civil servants

Governor Alex Otti of Abia's government on Tuesday, September 9, approved the dismissal of six senior civil service members from the state's Ministry of Justice. Their sacking followed an internal audit and administrative enquiry, where they were found guilty of manipulating the payroll system and were receiving more than their salaries.

The chairman of the state's Civil Service Commission, Eno Eze, however, did not mention the names of the affected officials, but listed their positions in a statement.

Otti's administration explained that the actions were a result of a detailed investigation carried out by the commission. It added that the financial records of the affected officers were reviewed independently, and they were interrogated before the decision was taken.

PDP crisis: Bala Mohammed challenges Wike

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have reacted to the conditions of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his allies.

The PDP governors have issued a fresh warning to Wike's camp ahead of the national convention in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed, said the party is not afraid of anybody.
