Kogi state’s commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Rabietu Okwute, has rejected accusations linking her to the recent attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Dekina Local Government Area.
The incident, which left the party office vandalised, has sparked heated political debate and fresh questions about the state’s tense political climate, The Nation reported.

Videos that circulated on social media showed the ADC office damaged, with reports alleging that the attackers wore shirts bearing Okwute’s image.
The suggestion that she sponsored the violence has drawn widespread attention, with her allies insisting the claim is a calculated attempt to tarnish her growing reputation.
Okwute denies link to ADC attack
Okwute issued a firm denial, describing the allegations as baseless and malicious.
“I am a mother and builder of youths and community, I don’t destroy,” she said, adding that her record of service speaks against any involvement in acts of violence.
Her supporters argue that no reasonable person would stage an attack in a way that openly points back to them.

Political observers believe Okwute’s rising influence may have unsettled some rivals within Kogi politics.
Before her appointment to the state cabinet, she built a career in the civil service and was active in the Peoples Democratic Party before moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She is known for community outreach and frequent campaigns against political violence, a record many say contradicts the allegations.
The attack has also revived discussion about the challenges faced by women in politics.
Groups demand transparent political investigation
Advocacy groups warn that false accusations and smear tactics aimed at prominent female figures can discourage younger women from seeking leadership positions.
They urge political leaders to create a safer and more respectful environment for female participation.
Civil society organisations have called for a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover those behind the attack.
They insist that anyone found culpable must be brought to justice and caution against the use of propaganda or intimidation as tools for settling political disputes.
