Minna, Niger State - The National Examinations Council (NECO) said it will not extend the registration for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
NECO reminded schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants of secondary schools to complete registration of candidates within the deadlines.
NECO sets firm deadline for 2026 SSCE registration
The NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, said the deadline for late registration remains Friday, May 29, 2026.
Wushishi made this known in a statement issued via the NECO X handle @Neconigeria on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Failure to meet the NECO registration deadlines could prevent candidates from sitting for the exam, potentially disrupting their academic progress.
“The last date for the normal registration of candidates by schools is Monday, 25th May 2026, while the deadline for late registration is Friday, 29th May 2026, with no further extension.”
NECO urged schools to adhere strictly to these dates for proper registration and preparation of candidates for the 2026 SSCE cycle.
According to the statement, these deadlines are crucial for the smooth administration of the SSCE.
Legit.ng reports that NECO is a national examination that qualifies students to apply for tertiary education, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.
SSCE: NECO blacklists supervisors, centres
Recall that NECO blacklisted five supervisors, recommended four centres for derecognition due to alleged examination malpractice.
A total of 9,016 malpractice cases were recorded in 2025 SSCE, a 31% increase from 2024.
71.63% of candidates achieved five credits and above in the 2025 SSCE results.

NECO: 3 states where exam malpractice happened
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the National Examinations Council (NECO) reported exam malpractice in the 2025 SSCE, involving centres across three northern states.
Over 73,000 candidates achieved five credits, including English, in the 2025 SSCE results.
Five supervisors implicated in malpractice are recommended for blacklisting by NECO.
