The institution emerged as the winner of the contest organised by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) for tertiary institutions in the southeast zone offering Estate Management and Valuation.
ESVARBON is the federal government–approved regulatory board that oversees estate surveying and valuation in Nigeria, granting registration licenses (stamps and seals) to qualified graduates for private practice nationwide. The competition was held in commemoration of the board’s 50th anniversary in April 2026, with each participating institution represented by two students.
The southeast zone quiz, held March 24, 2026, saw Chigozie and Tonye beat other institutions to clinch first place, earning the right to represent the zone at the grand finale in Lagos on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
But in an exclusive with Legit.ng correspondent on Tuesday, March 31, the male representative, Chigozie, noted that their outstanding performance shows the vision and drive for academic excellence, which the polytechnic's Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, is pioneering in the institution.
He said that Federal Polytechnic, Oko, under the leadership of Dr. Awuzie, has continued to record landmark achievements that characterise it as a renowned institution.
"One truth I will tell you is that our Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has transformed the polytechnic - every department in it; giving lecturers and students the needed boosts to excel."
"Under her leadership, students of this school have been given the necessary exposures that enable them to compete well with their contemporaries in other schools."

"Again, her administration has equipped every department with state-of-the-art equipment and materials needed for teaching and learning in a modern classroom. She sends teachers to refresher courses to upgrade their knowledge in line with the modern trend."
Also, the female representative, Tonye, told Legit.ng that the success was a result of the conducive atmosphere that allows students to work and study hard.
She said, "Students enjoy a conducive atmosphere here. We have quality teachers. We have quality learning aids. The present leadership of our school has wiped cultism out of the institution, so we now enjoy our teaching and learning. In fact, students are now encouraged when they do well in their exams and classwork. So, why won't we strive to do well?"
"Above all, students of this great institution are encouraged to study hard, and we're doing so."
