Lagos State authorities have launched an investigation into a viral video that shows students suspected to be from Excel College, Ejigbo, smoking and drinking alcohol inside what appears to be a dormitory.

The footage, which surfaced on social media, has triggered public concern over the conduct of the students and the level of supervision within the school.

The government has begun engaging the school authorities to establish the veracity of the claims.

Lagos government probes viral student misconduct

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education confirmed that the Office of Education Quality Assurance has begun a detailed probe to authenticate the video and identify those involved.

Officials said a monitoring team has been deployed to the school to gather facts, verify the identities of the students and assess the role of the management in the incident.

According to the ministry, preliminary discussions are ongoing with the school authorities to determine how the alleged misconduct occurred.

The government warned that any institution found to have failed in its duty of oversight will face sanctions in line with Lagos State education regulations.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the incident as unacceptable and contrary to the values expected within the state’s learning system.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding discipline across all schools and ensuring that students are raised in safe and morally sound environments.

“The safety, well-being, and moral values of all students remain paramount to the Lagos State Government. We are committed to ensuring that all learning environments are safe, disciplined, and conducive to the academic and moral growth of every learner,” Alli-Balogun said.

Excel college faces investigation over video

The ministry assured parents and the public that the investigation would be thorough and that the findings would guide the next steps. It urged school operators to strengthen internal monitoring and reinforce moral instruction to prevent similar occurrences.

Fake “Obi of Lagos” confesses to fraud

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Lagos State Police Command had provided fresh details on the arrest of a man who falsely presented himself as the “Obi of Lagos” and attempted to stage an elaborate installation ceremony.

The suspect, 65-year-old Chibuike Azubike, was picked up along with three alleged accomplices after police uncovered plans to unveil a prototype of a fictitious ₦1.5 billion “Obi of Lagos Palace” at Apple Hall in Amuwo Odofin on September 13.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi said in a statement on Thursday that preliminary investigation showed Azubike acted without any endorsement from legitimate traditional authorities.
