NRC Expands Train Services Nationwide, Announces Free Trips for Easter

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion of train services across the country to ease passenger movement during the Easter holiday period.
In a statement signed by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation said additional trips have been scheduled on major routes to accommodate the expected increase in travel demand Business Day reported.

According to the NRC, the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) will run three trips on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Departures from Mobolaji Johnson Station in Lagos are scheduled for 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.

From Obafemi Awolowo Station in Ibadan, trains will depart at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
Free train service between Lagos and Osogbo
In a notable development, the NRC announced a special free train service on the narrow-gauge corridor between Lagos and Osogbo.
The service, sponsored by the Osun State Government, will depart Iddo Station at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, with a return trip from Osogbo scheduled for Monday, April 6, at the same time.
Other routes maintain regular schedules
The Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will maintain its existing timetable, operating two trips on Thursdays and three daily trips from Friday to Monday between Idu and Rigasa.
Similarly, the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will continue its routine operations, running daily except Thursdays, which are set aside for maintenance. Trains from Warri to Itakpe will operate on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 8:00 a.m., while return trips will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 12:00 noon.
On the eastern corridor, the Port Harcourt-Aba service will also retain its regular schedule, with departures at 8:00 a.m. from Port Harcourt and 3:00 p.m. from Aba.

NRC assures passengers of safety
The NRC assured passengers of safe, reliable, and efficient services across its network during the holiday period.
It advised travellers to plan ahead, arrive early at stations, and comply with ticketing and security procedures.
The corporation also wished passengers a peaceful Easter celebration and encouraged continued use of rail transport as a dependable means of travel.
The federal government has declared Friday and Monday, April 3 and 6, 2026, as public holidays for the celebration of this year's Easter. April 3 is Good Friday, and April 6 is Easter Monday.

NRC offered free train service for Eid-El-Fitr
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the NRC offered special train services with additional trips and increased capacity across major corridors during the Islamic festival of Eid-el-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.
The Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) operated three trips in a one-day special arrangement to ease festive travel demand.
The Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) also expanded operations, while a free Iddo–Osogbo service was introduced in partnership with the Osun State Government
