FG Releases More Names, Photos of Fleeing Inmates Who Escaped From Imo Prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has revealed the identities of more inmates who escaped from the Owerri Custodial Centre in the Imo state.

Legit.ng reports that in a thread of tweets on Friday, April 16, the correctional authorities released pictures of scores of male and female inmates who have been declared wanted.

It was gathered that the recent posts by the NCoS followed similar tweets in which authorities revealed the identities of scores of the fleeing inmates.

The inmates escaped from the custodial centre on April 5 as a result of an attack on the facility by gunmen in the south-eastern state.

The gunmen, who also attacked the police command headquarters in the state, carried out the nefarious act very early in the morning.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the NCS released the names and pictures of some inmates who escaped from detention in Imo state.

It was reported that the NCS on Friday, April 9, via Twitter began to release the identities of the inmates in batches.

No fewer than 1,884 inmates were freed when the centre was attacked by gunmen on April 5.

In a related report, the escalating insecurity in Imo prompted the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, to hold an emergency meeting with heads of security agencies in the state.

The meeting was held following an attack on the headquarters of the Imo state police command and a correctional service in the state.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS)in Imo state, James Madugba, said the authorities are still trying to get accurate data of inmates who escaped and the level of devastation to the facility.

The police headquarters and some vehicles parked in the vicinity were also allegedly set ablaze by the gunmen.
