NDLEA records ground-breaking feat, nabs transborder trafficker with N1bn worth of hard substance in Sokoto

- A top drug trafficker, Nkem Timothy, has been arrested by the NDLEA in Sokoto

- Timothy was caught with hard substances worth the sum of N1 billion

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to sweep off drug trafficking throughout Nigeria.

The agency recently arrested a transborder drug trafficker, Nkem Timothy, alias Auwalu Audu, with hard substances which is worth not less than N1 billion in Sokoto, Daily Trust reports

NDLEA's director, media, and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said Timothy (36 years old) was trying to get to Algeria en route Niger Republic.

Timothy, according to the organisation's revelation, was arrested near the Baggage area at Illela border.

Babafemi revealed that the suspect hid 62 wraps of the substance which weighed 1.550kg inside Yogurt bottles.

He said:

“He was found with an ECOWAS passport with a different name written as Auwalu Audu, but he gave his real name as Nkem Timothy.
“This is a groundbreaking feat for us in the command as the seizure of this magnitude of type A drug (cocaine) has never been made in Sokoto command before.”

Meanwhile, two suspects, a Nigerian and an Indian with a container laden with Tramadol were arrested by the NDLEA at the Apapa port on Wednesday, February 24.

The arrest was made public in a statement released by the NDLEA's director, media, and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, The Nation reports. Babafemi disclosed that the exhibits were actually two million capsules of Tramadol tucked in 554 cartons.

Giving more details, the Apapa seaport area commander of the agency, Samuel Gadzama, revealed that a container used by the suspects had been seized in Kenya.

Gadzama said:

“Though the second container found its way to Nigeria, the eagle eyes of our narcotic agents discovered it during a joint inspection of the ship. We’re continuing with further investigations."
