Philippe Coutinho has expressed desires to stay at Bayern Munich 'for a long time' after joining them from Barcelona on a loan this summer.

The Bundesliga champions signed the Brazilian attacker for a deal around £7.78 million, and will have a chance to sign the player on a permanent deal for about £110 million next summer.

Coutinho joined the Catalans from Liverpool in January 2018 in a deal valued around €145 million but the forward failed to live up to expectation at Camp Nou.

While addressing the media on his arrival, the 27-year-old said that he has pushed his Barca career behind to focus on helping the German champions to win more titles.

He has previously represented Inter Milan, Liverpool and Barcelona before joining Bayern since he moved to Europe in 2008 - while spending time at Espanyol and Vasco da Gama on loan.

He said: “In Barcelona, a lot of things did not turn out as we had imagined. But this is now history. I hope to stay here for a long time and win many titles.

"I've earned experience, won titles and learnt a lot, but now I need to focus on Bayern.

"I didn't have any doubts when the call from Bayern came in. But when they showed me their project I wanted to come straight away."

The Brazilian was also linked with a move to Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea earlier this summer.

According to the Sun, Jurgen Klopp was interested in bringing the forward back to Anfield but they were cash-strapped, hence the deal failed to pull through.

Coutinho will be expected to fit into the shoes Arjen Robben left at the club after parting ways with them at the end of last season.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona have confirmed that World Cup winning star Ousmane Dembele will be out of action for about five weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in their La Liga opener over the weekend.

The Catalans suffered 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao at San Mames Stadium with the lone goal coming from Aritz Aduriz in the dying minutes of the encounter.

Although, the winger played all 90 minutes of the game, he was however said to have strained his left hamstring, and will be out for around five weeks.
