England Manager Shouts Out to Afrobeats Star Burna Boy During Ballon d’Or Speech, Video

Sarina Wiegman won the Johan Cruyff trophy as the best women's coach at the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on Monday night, September 22.

The 55-year-old beat other contenders like Chelsea's Sonia Bompastor and Arsenal's Renee Slegers.

Wiegman led England to beat Spain in the final of the UEFA Women's Euro in Switzerland last July.

The Three Lionesses won 3-1 via penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 120 minutes to win their second consecutive Euro.

Under Wiegman, England won their first senior team major trophy outside home soil.

We have broken records - Wiegman

England manager Sarina Wiegman said her team have broken records in the women's football category.

According to Surrey Comet, the Dutch international applauded the English Football Association, the players and staff, including her family, for the constant support that enabled her to excel.

She explained that Switzerland organised one of the best Euros. She said:

“What an honour to get this award after an insane summer.

“I would like to thank the players, the staff, the FA and my family for the hard work, trust and unconditional support I got from them. Without you I would not be standing here.
“The women’s game has grown so far, we have broken records. I would also like to thank Switzerland for organising the Euros because it was absolutely insane.
“This is not just a personal honour. I see it as a recognition of the women’s game and of our journey because we have come so far,” according to BBC.

Wiegman acknowledges Burna Boy

Sarina Wiegman called on Afrobeats star Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, during her speech at the Ballon d'Or.

In a viral video on X, the 55-year-old, a huge fan of the Nigerian artiste, was expecting the artist to perform during the ceremony. She said:

"Let's celebrate our successes too and if Burna Boy is around maybe we could do a little bit of dancing too."

Meanwhile, Burna Boy has responded to the England manager after publicly giving him a promotion during the Ballon d'Or ceremony.

The African Giant crooner congratulated Sarina Wiegman for emerging as the best women's coach in the world. He wrote:

"haha, I’m up for it Sarina! A huge congrats to you and the team."
