Why I chose number 44 - Boniface

Victor Boniface has explained the reason behind choosing jersey number 44 at his new club, Werder Bremen.

In a post on X, the Super Eagles star said his favourite jersey number 22 has been taken by centre-back Julian Malatini.

He said the choice of the jersey number 22 is a reminder of the day he lost his mother. He said:

"The number 22 is already taken by another player, so I just have to take 44. It doesn't mean anything, I just take 44.
"I started using 22 because it was the day I lost my mom; it's a special number for me (that's why I always use the number). When I signed for Werder Bremen and the number is already in use, I decided to double the number switch to 44."
