Real Madrid are through to the final of this year's Spanish Super Cup following their 3-1 victory over La Liga side Valencia at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia.

German midfielder Toni Kroos opened scoring for Los Blancos in the 15th minute in the maiden edition of the expanded version of the competition.

The title was originally meant for by the winners of the Spanish League title and the Copa Del Rey, but last year February, a compromise was reached to make it four teams.

It will now kick off from the semifinal stage while the two winners will battle for the title but there will be no losers' final.

Having dominated for the early stages of the meeting, Isco doubled the Galacticos lead just six minutes before half time to put them at a comfortable position heading into the break.

Luka Modric recorded his name on the scores sheet in the 65th minute as the Santiago Bernabeu looked ready for the final despite missing Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale due to injury.

Meanwhile, a 90th-minute penalty from Dani Parejo reduced his side's deficit but was unable to help salvage anything from the game.

Real will now await the winners of the second semifinal clash between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid which will be played on Thursday, January 9.

The final of the championship will be played at the same venue as the last four stage games on Sunday, January 12th. earlier reported that Real Madrid have shown interest in signing Chelsea target Timo Werner from RB Leipzig before the January transfer window closes.

The 23-year-old Germany international has been superb this season in the Bundesliga scoring 18 goals already this term.
