Obaseki's Govt Greatest Scam ever: Edo PDP, APC exchange harsh words

  • Governor Obaseki and the PDP have been accused by the APC of running a government with massive irregularities
  • Not stopping there, the party went on to describe Obaseki as a sole administrator and not a governor
  • Reacting to the harsh words from the opposition, the PDP said the APC is like a desperate conman while heaping praises on Obaseki's administration

Benin, Edo state - Edo state chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have engaged in a war of words over the performance of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The newly-elected chairman of APC in the state, Col. David Imuse (rtd.), had described the administration of Obaseki and his party, the PDP, as the worst political scam that had ever happened in the political history of Edo, Vanguard reports.

He was quoted by the party’s assistant publicity secretary, Victor Osehobo, as saying:

“As you know, we do not have a governor in Edo State, we have a sole administrator. Obaseki surrounds himself with political sycophants, predators, opportunists and vagabonds."

According to him, the party is now fully prepared to play the role of a credible opposition and will retake the number one position in the state during the next elections.

PDP lashes back

Not one to keep quiet, the PDP responded as it described APC as a rag-tag party.

The party's state publicity secretary, Chris Nehikhare, on Monday, October 18, described its government led by Obaseki as the most organised, people-centred and credible administration in Edo state, The Nation reports.

He called the APC executive a selection of cronies of the defeated godfather.

Nehikhare stated:

“APC has a deplorable effect on our society – corroding justice, good governance and prosperity. APC is like a desperate conman. APC is trying to flog a clapped-out and broken-down model, by slapping on a new coat of paint. They are arrogant enough to think that Edo people will forget what they are.”

The PDP spokesman further claimed that resetting the Edo agenda was causing serious discomfort for the APC.

I'm not leaving PDP

Obaseki's meeting with President Buhari on Wednesday, October 13, had further fuelled speculations of his likely return to the APC.

The Edo governor of Edo state has, however, ruled out plans to abandon the PDP and return to the APC.

According to him, his integrity would not allow him to abandon the party which provided him cover when he was in distress.

Recall that Obaseki secured his second term mandate on the PDP's platform after failing to get the APC's ticket.
