Vanuatu's Immigration and Passport Services has published the official requirements that foreigners must satisfy before applying for citizenship in the Pacific island nation, covering everything from how long they must have lived there to what documents they need to gather.
According to the Vanuatu Immigration and Passport Services, all citizenship applications are processed by the Vanuatu Citizenship Office, while the immigration authority handles only the naturalisation certification stage.

Who qualifies for Vanuatu citizenship
Three distinct pathways exist for foreigners seeking to become Vanuatu citizens:
- The first applies to individuals who have lived continuously and legally in the country for at least 10 years under the Immigration Act No. 17 of 2010.
- The second is open to those who are married to a Vanuatu citizen and have resided in the country for a minimum of two years.
- The third covers children born to at least one Vanuatu citizen parent.
Each route carries its own documentary requirements. Regardless of which pathway an applicant falls under, they must submit a valid passport copy and a signed request letter.
Documents required for each application route
For those applying through long-term residence, a copy of their current residence visa must be included in the application package.
Applicants taking the marriage route are required to provide a marriage certificate along with either the birth certificate or passport of their Vanuatu citizen spouse.
Those applying as children of a Vanuatu citizen must submit their own birth certificate together with the birth certificate or passport of the qualifying parent.
Vanuatu, an archipelago of more than 80 islands in the South Pacific, is known internationally for its citizenship by investment programme, but the naturalisation pathway described here is a separate, residence-based route designed for those who have built genuine long-term ties to the country.

Citizens not needing Germany work visa
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the German government has confirmed that citizens of 31 countries do not need a visa or residence permit to live and work in Germany.
The exemption covers all 27 European Union (EU) member states plus Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland.
