A man living close to Arise TV anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, has opened up about how the armed security officer in the residence also died after the tragic armed robbery attack.
Somtochukwu, also known as Sommie, died at the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, after a tragic armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.

The death of the 29-year-old reporter threw Nigerians into mourning, as Arise TV management announced that the police were investigating the case.

Identified on X as @sanitunji, the armed security officer at the residence tried to ward off the robbers’ attack but was shot in the process.
Sani had earlier narrated his experience as the first victim who was attacked in the robbery operation.
Mourning the security officer, the man said:
“Also, we must not forget Barnabas, our armed security officer, who tried to fight off the invaders but was shot in that attempt. I personally drove him to the hospital to get treated. I watched him pass on right in front of me hours later as he lost too much blood.He leaves behind a small family with one child.
“Side note: Our hospital emergency staff and services are really not ready, man, but that's for another day.”

I also always advise every estate to house a medical personnel, be it a doctor or nurse. You don't have to pay them, maybe keep one or two house spaces for such personel... I know of someone who was shot in the thighs but survived because he was driven with a doctor who lives at this compound for almost two hours before they got to the nearest hospital. The doctor stabilized him while on transit. May their souls rest in peace.
